Next.js Conf returns Oct 22

Next.js Conf 2025 is taking place this October 22, both in person in San Francisco, as well as online. We’re expecting the launch of Next.js 16, plus a stable release of all the new caching features Vercel’s been polishing over the past few months

Middleware Now Stable in React Router

The middleware feature is now stable in React Router 7.9.0 via the future.v8_middleware flag. Here’s a look at the problems it can solve, and the patterns it unlocks.

React won by default, and it's killing frontend innovation

A look at how React is no longer winning on technical merit but because it’s the default choice. The author argues this reflex decision is creating a monoculture that hurts the entire web development ecosystem.

TanStack Start v1 Release Candidate

First appearing on our radar a year ago, TanStack’s attempt at a full-stack TanStack Router-powered framework has reached a v1.0 release candidate that’s expected to be largely the same as its eventual 1.0 release. We’ll let it sell itself: “it’s the next chapter in building type-safe, high-performance React apps without the heavy abstractions.”

React Old Icons: 2000+ Classic Vintage Icons

I’m not sure where or how you’d use it, but I enjoyed the nostalgia trip none-the-less. It’s a component library giving access to thousands of icons from a variety of vintage operating systems (e.g. Windows 95) and apps. The ownership of said icons will require you to be careful with their usage, however. GitHub repo.

eslint-plugin-react-you-might-not-need-an-effect

What a project name! It’s an ESLint plugin to catch unnecessary useEffects which you might well be overusing.

Cursor and SpaceXAI just launched Grok 4.5
This week made something obvious: the AI model race is not just about who tops the benchmark chart anymore. It is becoming a race to own the workflow around the model. The companies that win will not just ship smarter models. They will put those models directly where builders plan, code, review, test, deploy, and approve work. 🔥 The Big One Cursor and SpaceXAI just launched Grok 4.5 — and thi...
Fable 5 is back
Fable 5 came back, and the real lesson got louder: powerful agents need boring rules around them. 🔥 The Big One Fable 5 is back after an 18-day safety mess. Anthropic is redeploying Claude Fable 5 starting today, July 1, after the US government lifted export controls on Fable 5 and Mythos 5. That is a big deal for builders because Fable 5 was not just another model launch. Anthropic positione...
The terminal agent shift devs should not ignore
This week made it obvious: the terminal is becoming the control room. 🔥 The Big One GitHub just made the terminal feel like the new home for coding agents. GitHub made the redesigned Copilot CLI generally available this week, and honestly, this is bigger than another "AI in your editor" update. The important bit is not just that you can chat in the terminal. We have had that for a while. The ...
